The Palaszczuk Labor Government looks set to force yet another water bill hike on Pumicestone locals with a recommended 5 per cent price increase for residents in the Moreton Bay Region.

Palaszczuk Labor Government to rule out accepting the Queensland Competition Authority’s recommendation for an increase in water prices”.

“I spoke to this motion in Parliament and stood up for Pumicestone residents and small businesses who are set to pay more for their water than ever before – in fact they face hikes in their water bills three to five times the rate of inflation.”

“I was astounded to see the LNP’s motion backing SEQ locals being voted down by Labor members,” Ms Wilson said.

“If there was ever a sign of what is to come under the Palaszczuk Labor Government, it was on display in Parliament on Wednesday”

Ms Wilson said that over 10 years under Labor Governments in Queensland there has been a 400 per cent increase in bulk water prices.

“This is indicative of just how out of touch they are with the struggles people face in making ends meet.”

The Queensland Competition Authority’s Final Report for SEQ bulk water prices has recommended price increases of:

  • 5% for residents in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay, Scenic Rim and Somerset - $47 more over 3 years
  • Over 8% on the Sunshine Coast and Noosa - $79 more over 3 years
  • Over 9% in Redlands - $88 more over 3 years.
