Labor will reach further into the pockets of Pumicestone residents with confirmation local water bills for the Moreton Bay region will increase by a further $48 over the next three years.

Labor will reach further into the pockets of Pumicestone residents with confirmation local water bills for the Moreton Bay region will increase by a further $48 over the next three years.

Member for Pumicestone, Simone Wilson, said the shameful announcement by Annastacia Palaszczuk this week showed complete contempt for local residents already struggling with the increasing cost of living.

“The Labor Government had been sitting on this decision for weeks, biding its time and choosing of all days Wednesday – not only Game One of State of Origin but also Queensland Day – to announce this price slug.

“How much more cowardly and ‘unQueensland’ can you get!”

Ms Wilson said Labor had a chance to intervene and stop the price increase, but instead chose to reject the LNP’s motion in Parliament to rule out charging residents more for their water.

“Last month I stood up in Parliament and joined my colleagues in calling on this Labor Government to stop slugging residents more and more for the everyday necessities such as rego, electricity and now water.

“Sadly our pleas were totally ignored,” Ms Wilson said.

Ms Wilson said this was further evidence of Queenslanders paying more because of Labor incompetence and poor planning.

“Yet again Queenslanders are paying the price for Labor’s multi-billion dollar water grid fail and their legacy of an almost 400% increase in bulk water prices over 10 years.

“Pumicestone residents, particularly those on fixed incomes, deserve better and I’ll continue to stand up and fight Labor’s cost of living pressures.” Ms Wilson said.
